Logo Creation and Logo Vectorization. How much do I charge?
I have a double diploma in the Graphic Arts, but have just recently graduated. Funny enough the one thing they don’t teach in school is how much you should be paid on average.
My question is for logo design pricing. I have been asked how much I charge per hour for creating logos and vectorizing of hand drawn logos. I considered having a starting flat rate (example: $10) and having an hourly rate on top of that (example: $7 per hour) so, (7 x # of Hours + $10 flat rate = …).
What do you think a fare rate would be? Keep in mind I’m am doing this freelance using my own software and resources and not employed through a company.

You’re not giving yourself enough credit with your example rates.
Consider a flat rate for logo design, because how long it takes you depends on your design and how quickly you can get it thrown together. I’d charge at least $50 for a logo design delivered in flat format (JPG, PNG, TIFF) as well as vector format (EPS, AI)
Regarding vector tracing, I would charge at least $20 an hour. The logo may be complex, and you need to consider all sorts. What if the logo has a detailed illustration in it, or complex mathematical specification?
You are using your own resources, which consist not only of your software, but of your experience and skillset. That’s what they are really paying for. A logo is a big deal, and you shouldn’t short change yourself on it.
Make a sample sheet of generic logos for fun, so they know you’ve got what it takes.
