Desktop Test
Can anyone tell me why my laptop download speed is 17000 kbs faster than my desktop?
My Macbook Pro shows an average download speed of 20000 kbps. It is connected through wireless. My desktop, a Dell running windows 7, shows a dowload speed of about 3500 kbps. They are both connected to the same modem and router. The result is the same across multiple speed test sites.
20megabits is a lot. Check to see if your internet provider even supplies that much. If not, then the issue may be in the test suites interacting with the macbook pro. 3.5 megabits is more typical.
If it is indeed a bona fide 20 megabits on the macbook then it could be a number of things:
buggy or inferior network card on the dell
buggy drivers in the dell
buggy interaction between the test site and the browser in windows 7
