Graphic Design Pricing
Flash Web design, graphic design price?
I’m thinking of opening a design company but don’t know how to set the price.
I read few other questions on here and said around $500 a site. I know it depends on the content but can you tell me the price I should charge in different cases? (just html, all flash, etc)
also if you have any idea on how much i should charge with graphic design stuff (e.g. logo design) that would be great too! Thank you in advance!
A good place to start would be an hourly rate, and then rate each project with “how many hours would this take?”
Example 1: sketching up 3 static concepts for a Flash-enabled website in Photoshop takes you 8 hours, and your rate is $25 an hour – so “initial design concept for site” should cost your client $200. Your client then picks one concept out of the 3, and asks you to make revisions on it – and you allow them 3 revisions to decide that they are happy with it, each taking about 4 hours, so that’s another 6 hours, $300.
After the design has been solidified, you do the coding – in which you can charge either on a “per page” basis, or “per hour” – whichever way is easier for you. In this case let’s say you’re charging “per page” at $30, and your client’s site has 6 pages. That’s $180 for the coding. You can charge an extra $200 for a Flash intro, or a Flash menu.
So for this web project, total will be $880.
Example 2: sketching up 3 concepts for a logo takes you 8 hours, and your rate is $25 an hour – so “initial concepts for logo” should cost your client $200. Your client then picks one concept out of the 3, and asks you to make revisions on it – and you allow them 3 revisions to decide that they are happy with it, each taking about 2 hours, so that’s another 6 hours, $150. In total, the project will cost them $350.
You can even list out on the initial contract to show the client what they’re paying for. But make sure to spell it out that your clients can only get a certain number of revisions – otherwise you’ll be trapped into doing revisions forever, as clients are rarely happy with their own decisions.
Hope this helps!
