Graphic Design Resume
Need help finding a graphic design job…any advice?
I have been out of school now for about 6 months and have been actively looking for a job in the graphic design field. I am looking mostly in central and downstate Illinois and the St. Louis area but I am open to moving anywhere. I know I am a good designer and have sent my resume everywhere. I just fell stuck right now. Any advice?
Here’s a couple ideas to make money with your skill:
1. sell a package on eBay where you will design business cards and letterhead. You can email the produce in jpg format and they can print as many as tehy want.
2. do the same thing on Craigslist. List in trade work.
3. find a specialty like doctors do. I have a Vis. Comm. degree too and I specialize in Vinyl Graphics. The cost for me is very low, and the mark-up is great. Best of all I do it from home.

like that last guy said…. do free (or low cost work) to get your name out there. I did that and it lead to an awesome internship. But truely I have NEVER worked for a printshop owner that wasn’t an a**h***. You do all the work and they present it as theirs. Also if you KNOW that something works and will sell their product, but they want you to fill every inch of white space, then you just have to sacrafice your goos taste to please the customer. You’re better of finding your nitch and making a name for yourself.
Are you good a photo restoration, web design, maybe greeting cards, a friend of mine made about $20K doing that about 10 hours a week. Don’t tie yourself down to the idea of having a boss…they suck.
If you are good with illustrator you might be able to do vinyl graphics in your area. if you’re intersted let me know.
good luck
