Advice from professional graphic artists – CHICAGO?

I have 1 year experience in the industry as a designer of Chicago (Flash, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator) I'm thinking of going independent and registration of some agencies (creative craft circle group, etc) Do you think I will continue working in enough water? I am currently $ 30,000 and must ensure that at least cover my expenses. Any advice would be most welcome, thanks!
