Hi,

2D CAD is already in widespread use, but many leading companies have already upgraded, or are planning to upgrade to 3D CAD in the future. If I were you, I would study Pro/E, Solidworks or Inventor, as designers with 3D CAD experience will be in more demand in the future.

Over 10 years ago I studied AutoCAD release11 at school, Later after Leaving Uni, I landed a job using AutoCAD 13. Fortunately at the time, the company was in the process of updating to Pro/E v15 I took the opportunity to learn Pro/E and I’ve been using it ever since. You do need a slightly different mindset working with Pro/E compared to AutoCAD as it’s more interactive and graphical.

Pro/E also opens up other avenues such as FEA using Pro/Mechanica.
