What are the “Alternate names” of the NFL teams??
Every team has copyrighted “Alternate team names” and i was curious where i can find the list of these names. For example, when the Oilers moved to Nashville and wanted to become the Titans they had to “buy” the name from the Jets because they had it listed as an alternate name.The Oilers had Wildcatters and Roustabouts as alternate names. The NFL has every team choose 2 or 3 different names and then they are “copyrighted” and no one else can use them. I think Indy has Stallions as an alternate name…. Also every team has alternate logos and uniform/ helmets designs. Does anyone know what website these can be found?
The NY titans were a real team that existed in the beginning of the NFL in 1961 and 1962. in 63 they changed their name to the Jets but the franchise still had the rights to the name Titans so the Tennessee franchise had to purchase the rights. Not all teams have “alternate names” but some have changed their team name at one point or another.
