How I can transfer files from my Windows XP desktop on my laptop with Windows 7?

I have an old desktop computer Windows XP, and I would take pictures to transfer files, some of my music / on my new laptop for Windows 7? How I can do that? For Please help! 10 points for best answer:)

Depending on the amount of data you can use USB sticks, CDs, DVDs or external hard drives. If a large amount of data, then you would want an external hard drive available.
