Desktop Replacement
would you suggest a laptop as a desktop replacement?
I have a laptop which i use every day (usually left on) are there any downsides towards using it as much as i would a normal computer?
how many of yous have laptops?
my specs: 15inch, Intel core 2 duo (2.0ghz), 4gb ram, 250gb Hdrive

Your system sounds like a nice one, the Core 2 Duo’s have planty of power for everyday computing and generally run cooler than AMD processors. There is no downside to using you laptop as you would a desktop. Be aware that if you are going to leave your laptop plugged in for an extended period of time that you should remove the battery. Leaving your laptop plugged in for a long time with the battery still in can wear your battery out much faster; all of the energy flowing in and out puts wear and tear on the cells. If you check your owner’s manual, this is probably in there somewhere–it was in mine. I also have a laptop, mine is an HP dv6700t with a 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo t8100, 3GB of RAM and a 500GB Hard Drive–I use it constantly and have had no issues.

Designing Software
Designing software?
What software would I need to design peices of software and then be able to put the program on disk and use something like InstallSheild to install my software on clients computer
Anyone have any Ideas??….
That’s a loaded question.
A) you need to pick a programming language like Java or C++
B) Download the correct development environment. JDK for Java, something like MS Visual Studio for C++ (C# now actually).
C) You need to pick an installer like MSI or InstallShield and set it up how you want.
It largely depends on what you want your software to do. You may be able to get away with simple scripts if you want to manipulate windows or Linux.
Java seems like the best bet for you if you want to make little applications because you really don’t need an installer for Java and it can be transported between platforms (the drawback is that the client would need the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on his computer.
C is the most complicated to implement and seems to be a bit too involved for what you’d like to do.

I’m trying to reconfigure my computer and I’m looking for a reliable, free website where I can download software for performance and maintenance. Also, my friend put this thing on my mom’s laptop, I can’t remember what it’s called, starts with an A and then two more capital letters haha, if that helps… but it’s a firewall, I think?!
