How much should I charge for custom website design?
Hello,
I am a Junior in college for a degree in Computer Science. I have been approached by a friend to create a custom website (He is ready and willing to pay for the site). I have some web design experience, and am able to create a website, however I have never done one for someone else as a job. So basically I was wondering how much I should charge? Basically I will be doing some flash button/banners, a couple graphic design things, and a completed website with about four pages and a database.
Any Idea how much I should charge, or how long a project like this should take?

I think as a first job, you might charge anywhere from $7.00 an hour to $10.00 an hour, negotiable.
You would have to keep very accurate records of when you actually work on the project.
Without knowing the details, it would be rather difficult to say how long it would take to design.
Good luck, and – oh yeah – don’t forget to save a copy of the finished job in it’s own folder, as a “portfolio” of professional (i.e. paid) web sites you have created – this, of course, being your first. This way, later on, you can use them as references on a professional resume. And don’t forget to get permission in writing to use the website as a personal reference.
Oh, yeah – one last thing – I almost forgot – create a contract – IN WRITING – with signatures – explaining exactly what you will do, and how much you will charge. That way, if there is any question later on, you will have a legal contract.
